ngl, it's about quality over quantity for me. an npc can have a total of three minutes of screen time, but if they have a cool name, they can live rent free in my head and I'll spend several hours trying to decipher drawable features from a blurry screenshot of pixels

there is a vague hint of a story here, and that's because every time I try to play thi4f, I get incredibly frustrated with how Not Fun the game play is. like, is the story good? well. but it has a PLAGUE. that should've given it instant 'I'll replay this once a year' status in my heart, but the game play sucks so bad that I've never finished it. I can't believe Not Fun gameplay beat out my obsession with narrative plagues.

anyway, the idea is basically if the original era had a game with a plague centric narrative and some other stuff I liked out of thi4f thrown into a narrative blender, with a heavy dash of horror thrown in because some parts of the thief games were scarier to me than entire dedicated horror genre games.

OK can I just yap about a small misconception I’ve seen a lot of people make with Erica’s timeskip lore? Alright so pretty much everyone I’ve seen believes that after the events of S1, Erica goes on to join a bunch of teams again after The FailFleet Miis split apart, basically how things were for her before joining the 3DS Squad. Even the wiki says it right here:

I can definitely see how this mistake had started! But while it’s true she had to relive the experiences of traveling/tagging along with incompetent groups, all the death and fear and trauma… during this whole cutscene, Dan never confirmed she was a teammate of those groups.

“Erica decided to travel the world, hoping to use her newfound powers to keep wayward adventurers from their peril…”

Like, take a listen for yourself! The way he specifically worded how things were for her before snapping doesn’t really have a mention of joining a party/parties in between The FailFleet Miis and The Incident, just that she helped them! Dan already knew while writing her story that not only can people in the Travelers Hub tag along with other teams for specific ‘missions’, but also that there are already existing traveling mage characters in the world like Kazoo Man and Peppa!

I think something like that Great Sage role for her during this time was the route Dan was really going for, especially since it tied in a bit to her past arc of learning to have faith in others! This misconception about her timeskip lore’s been going on for years and I’m kinda surprised nobody’s talked about it (afaik)

LIKE DAN WORDING IT THE WAY HE DID HAS TO BE INTENTIONAL RIGHT?? I even looked at the simplified cutscene for the Main Channel Upload to double check if he said anything there and it still has NO MENTION of her specifically joining these groups she’s assisted!!

^ also this COULD be taken as more proof since he says adventurers like. it could be a mix of regular parties and individual people? idk maybe this is a stretch lmao

ok but it would be so funny if during a random stream i forgot about he was like “oh yeah she joined all those groups in between the 3DS and Switch playthroughs lol” and this whole yapfest ends up being pointless and i look super dumb :P

okay sorryyyy long ramble about the dark beginnings teaser/sxs gens in general incoming. i feel like what we see in the teaser is . well "not real" probably isnt the right way to put it but i dont think its an actual direct flashback to shadows past. i think that shadow is trapped in his own memories. most obvious evidence for this is that the whole story of sonic generations is sonic revisiting his past adventures because of the time eater and eggman messing up the timeline so it makes sense that shadows story which is happening at the same time would be a similar situation. also theres these weird glitchy effects at certain points in the teaser which i think are meant to imply something isnt right here

also sidenote absolutely Haunting how maria grabbing his hand is what triggers it and we specifically see gun soldiers among the glitches. anyway. shadow also noticeably gasps/flinches when it happens which makes it seem like he saw it too

also based on all the promotional stuff we've seen so far black doom seems to be the main antagonist of shadows campaign. and its shown in shadows game that black doom has some level of access to shadows mind/memories and will use that to his advantage. like he literally made shadow watch the ark raid again and went "look what they did to you arent humans terrible". so this does feel like something hed be willing to do . or maybe its not Just black doom doing this maybe part of it is also caused by the time eater but the emphasis on black doom makes it seem like hes at least partially responsible

and speaking of black doom i dont think that he literally came back from the dead i think that the timeline being messed up just allowed him to show up again despite being dead. unless theyre gonna reveal that he survived somehow but idk him showing back up after all this time Specifically in a time travel related game makes me think he did die

idk how to end this post. shadow wasnt at sonics party because he was busy reliving his trauma for the millionth time

I'm listening to the audiobooks of the His Dark Materials series again. I've read / listened to them many times but not for a few years.

Gods it's just hitting me again how awful what's happening to the kids in the first book. It's always awful, but I always forget how scary and visceral it is. You feel the fear and the finality and the tragedy of it. It's hard to even comprehend because we don't really have an equivalent in our world, right? Like maybe traumatizing a child so deeply they're never the same and then die. Die from sheer trauma to their spirit and body.

And it's just hitting me that they not only.... so deliberately ruin these children. They leave them out in the cold frozen woods to slowly die. They just. I can't even put it into words. They just ruin them and throw them away. They kill them and then kill them again.

Of all the characters in this vast series of names and places and tragedies and injustices - this little boy named Tony and his Ratter really weigh on my heart. Your alcoholic absent mother may not remember you in this fictional world, but in this real world I know I will.

When the King kids go to Camp Hawkins for the summer, they're expecting a good time. Raya's looking forward to flirting with fellow counselor Robin Buckley, Ginny can't wait to embarrass Jordan in front of his friends, and Jordan just wants to spend some time alone with Will Byers. But when the adults are all murdered in one night and Will and Jordan both go missing, Raya and Ginny are forced to take on the mantle of responsibility for the kids while also figuring out how to find their cousin and his crush before time runs out.

I get a little miffed thinking about that one Email from Wolpaw or Pinkerton or whoever it was where they said that the Admin's storyline was supposed to be far more in-depth and include niche characters like Silas and Barnabus only to scrap it because it was "too boring and too dark". Them just going "What kind of a weirdo would want to wait 7 years for a comic to be about characters who nobody knows nor cares about?" where I'm in the back like

Alright chat before s2 starts tomorrow I want to put one more idea out there or rather, theory.

So we know that the red gate at the diamond level probably leads to like, a lobby or something. Probably a no-pvp zone. Assuming that every civilization has a lobby exit gate at their last level (depending on the weapon this might just be instantly accessible) Is there actually a way out? Or is this it? Are they suspended in the void? Is there ever really anything outside of the civilizations? Is it an apocalypse out there, perceived to be that way? Or is it. Nothing special? Personally what I'm going with until its proven wrong: There is no true exit. Death is the only way out of PVP civilization. The whole thing with Evbo's immortality, his obsession with trying to get down lower and see if there's anything outside of it. Wouldn't it be fucked up if there was actually just nothing except this hell that he put himself through for no reason? The guy in episode 1 might've had a point there, and might've been the smartest guy Evbo ever met. The point of the whole game being to not play at all.

Putting himself in a cycle of dying and living and dying? Probably the worst idea he had, assuming I'm right. Which considering everyone seems more concerned about prolonging the inevitability of death? Farming for durability, paying for immortality with said durability? What if they already knew there was nothing out there, and nobody thought to tell Evbo. Either because they didn't have the heart to crush his dreams, or fear that it would break him. Could you imagine how devastated he would be if he got that revealed to him? That there isn't a way out, that nobody is going to escape PVP Civilization. There is no Chosen One, to lead everyone out of hell.

sometimes i sit in my balcony and think about the point of life and human existence and then I eat a mango or hug my mom or go to the beach or watch modern family or sing to my dog or bake cookies with my friends or clean my room or read a Ocean Vuong book or listen to Okinawa by 92914 or take a nap under the sky or watch a Wong Kar-wai film or have the most perfect soul healing meal or fall in love five times a week or feel the breeze through my hair and it all makes sense.
